Shamrock Foods Chooses XRS For Mobile Fleet Optimization
Top foodservice distributor seeks next-generation ROI in fleet optimization solutions
XRS Corporation,(formerly Xata Corporation) the leader in mobile fleet optimization solutions, recently announced Shamrock Foods– a nationally-ranked manufacturer and distributor of quality food products – has selected XRS mobile fleet optimization and its unique Mobile Application Programming Interface to improve customer service, comply with FMCSA regulations and leverage technology investments across the company and fleet.
Shamrock Foods chose XRS for its unique ability to build driver workflows in a standard environment. Shamrock will use rugged handhelds that run the XRS application for compliance and truck performance data, in conjunction with proof of delivery applications from Systems Application Engineering, Inc. (SAE). Drivers will now have one seamless application for both critical tasks. The 500-truck fleet did this by walking away from the traditional big box, fixed modem, single purpose, expensive hardware and on-board computers.
“As a leading distributor of food and dairy products, Shamrock Foods is continuously seeking new ways to leverage technology investments to maintain a safe, reliable and efficient fleet,” said Jay Coughlan, chairman and chief executive officer of XRS Corporation. “With XRS, Shamrock will achieve an entirely new level of performance and ROI with its fleet optimization investment, establishing a true competitive advantage for their business and simplifying the entire fleet management experience.”
Shamrock Foods is an established leader in implementing technology-based solutions for its customers and has long utilized emerging technology, including customized order-entry and proof-of-delivery systems for load manifests and invoices.
The company turned to XRS to provide FMCSA Hours of Service compliance data on a mobile device. Systems Application Engineering, Inc. (SAE) provided the applications interface and used the XRS Mobile Application Programming Interface (API)to allow seamless switching between the XRS electronic driver logs and SAE’s Driver Pro System that Shamrock uses for its proof-of-delivery solution.
Using the Mobile API from XRS, Shamrock enables delivery professionals to work from one simple workflow using the same devices in and out of the cab, leading to a safe and compliant fleet without the need for traditional on-board computers.
“We know that advances in technology are crucial for driving cost out of the distribution channel and making delivery of our goods and services more accurate and efficient,” said Johnny Mullins, transportation manager for Shamrock Foods. “We evaluated traditional on-board computers and were dissatisfied with the expensive hardware, limited ability to build custom workflows, and mobile as an afterthought. XRS will help Shamrock leverage its current technology investments in handheld devices and proof-of-delivery applications, while guaranteeing we are optimizing our fleet for compliance, fuel management, idle time monitoring and driver productivity. We are confident that XRS puts the best available technology in our drivers’ hands and ensures we are keeping current with FMCSA regulations and the upcoming ELD mandate.”
The XRS mobile platform runs on more than 50 types of mobile devices and automatically transmits vehicle and operator data directly to a management dashboard, providing compliance for the upcoming mandate for electronic logging devices. With XRS, there are no up-front hardware costs and no capital requirements. Every XRS package includes an XRS Relay in-cab device that communicates via Bluetooth with the driver’s existing smartphone or tablet.
